Nordic Wave Viking - Vertical Cold Plunge Design in the press

We’re super proud of how this cold plunge turned out and it looks like we’re not alone!

Designing something like this–a large tub– presents some interesting challenges. Not only does it need to fulfill some quite specific functions (moldability, cost goals, ergonomics)  it needs to visually fit into any home or fitness center. Here are some principles we keep in mind for a project like this:

  • Keep the shape sleek. Like it or not, unadorned silhouettes are the dominant design language right now and it’s what people react best to.
  • Make sure that the visuals reflect what the product does. The cool colors and wave detailing tell the story of a cold-focussed product at first glance.
  • Convenience and ease. After reviewing the competition, we determined that user’s complaints focussed on size and difficulty in draining and cleaning. With this in mind we created the smallest possible footprint without loss of stability and sloped the bottom for easy drainage.
  • Manufacturability. This is a concern for everything, but for a large piece manufactured in the US it is especially critical. Roto-molded products must be shaped in a specific way to allow them to be removed easily from the mold without quality control issues.

Stay tuned for more icy products in the near future.
